Work Related Injuries

Musculoskeletal disorders are at the heart of many people's complaints of chronic pain. Several conditions are categorized as musculoskeletal disorders. Examples include chronic back and neck pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. The severity and frequency of symptoms for each of these conditions can vary widely from one person to another. In some cases, the effects of dysfunction can be debilitating. One of the concerning elements of musculoskeletal disorders is their possible link to the workplace.
The effects of a work related injury may not be noticed right away. This is especially true when the injury stems from some type of repetitive movement or from spending long hours sitting at a desk. Although not the result of a traumatic event, this type of injury is significant, leading to symptoms such as numbness, tingling, and pain. Depending on the frequency and severity of the problem, one may find it difficult to remain productive at work or even to make it to work every day. In some cases, what seems like minor issues can lead to disability.

The risks for work related injuries

When we hear the term "injury," we tend to imagine an event, such as a fall. Most often, the originating trigger is no more than a single or repeated movement. Some of the common factors involved in work related injuries include movements such as:

  • Overhead lifting
  • Lifting, pushing, or pulling heavy objects
  • Posture
  • Bending, lifting, or twisting frequently throughout the day
  • Repetitive motions in the hands, such as typing

These movements and several others are recognized by your experienced chiropractor as risk factors for injury. In addition to helping patients recover from injury to their back, neck, hands, or other areas, Dr. Emmert also consults with patients about their work environment. Collaboration between patient and doctor can lead to improvements in functional movement at work and a decreased risk for future injury.
Everyone benefits when work is completed in a focused, efficient manner. If an injury is inhibiting you from reaching your full potential, we can help. Many people begin to notice improvement in mobility and comfort after just a few chiropractic treatments.

Work related injuries might not always qualify as a worker's compensation claim. However, this coverage does not override the need for quality care and a return to your best quality of life. Our experienced staff is happy to assist you with coverage questions and more.
