Selective Functional Movement Assessment

Functional Movement Assessment West Linn - Image Dr. Emmert works with patients to develop specific exercises that can help to correct and strengthen imbalances. Every patient is different. Our targeted protocol assesses the impact of improper use or dysfunction in connective tissues, muscles, the spine, and other vital structures of the musculoskeletal system. With specific stretches and exercises, Dr. Emmert helps patients regain and maintain optimal balance and health.

There is a series of seven full-body movement assessments in The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). Making his way through this series, Dr. Emmert assesses the fundamental patterns of various movements such as squatting and bending in patients seeking resolution of musculoskeletal pain.

In many cases, movement patterns may seem irrelevant to limited mobility and pain. The Selective Functional Movement Assessment, looking specifically at movement patterns, allows us to identify impairments that may be meaningful to musculoskeletal complaints. These impairments may be contributing to the level of disability experienced by the patient.

The seven steps of the assessment process lead us to the movement pattern that is most dysfunctional, yet likely not the one that is the most painful. Once identified, this dysfunctional pattern is thoroughly assessed. The Selective Functional Movement Assessment complements our routine examination, bringing to the forefront the issues of muscle balance, posture, and movement.

Incorporating this assessment into our examination, we have an innovative approach in the treatment of dysfunction and pain. By isolating the origin of injury, we can then build the most efficient care plan for optimal results.

Dr. Emmert has completed advanced training in the area of functional movement assessment. He is happy to answer your questions and provide you with this outstanding diagnostic service.
